Why are we doing this research?
The aim of our research is to understand how teachers and school staff are currently being trained to understand the needs of LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer, Questioning or Other) young people to better support them and their mental health.
As a result of the research, we aim to improve training available to educators and help them to better support LGBT+ pupils in secondary schools and colleges.
Join the Advisory Group
Our research about young people is co-led with young people.
We are looking for pupils aged 13-19 to share your opinions from any aspects of your life to help us to:
- Ask sensitive and meaningful questions.
- Reach young people whose voices often go unheard, e.g. Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups, and people from different religious/faith groups.
- Design school training that best meets the needs of young people and helps protect their mental health.
What would be involved as a Young Advisor?
- You will be joined by a small group of young people in an informal meeting.
- You can take part in up to 4 casual meetings which will take place between January and October 2021.
- The meetings will be held online (Zoom/Microsoft Teams).
- We can help you find a solution if you’re not able to do the online meetings at home.
